Central Auckland Special School (CASS) provides specialist education for learners aged 5–21 with complex learning needs and intellectual disabilities.
We operate across a range of settings, including our base school and satellite classes located within mainstream schools, creating inclusive opportunities for students to learn, participate, and belong within their communities.
Our vision, “Growing independence, confidence and communication,” underpins everything we do. Teaching and learning at CASS are highly personalised and strengths-based, with a strong focus on communication, life skills, wellbeing, and meaningful engagement. We work in close partnership with families and a multidisciplinary team to support students to reach their potential and lead fulfilling lives.
As an intern at CASS, you’ll work alongside teachers, therapists, and support staff to support students’ learning and wellbeing in inclusive and supportive environments. You may be involved in adapting learning activities to suit individual needs, supporting communication and independence, and contributing to programmes that build life skills and social participation.
Interns may also provide one-to-one support for students with specific learning needs or take part in projects aligned with their educational background and interests. Throughout your internship, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience in specialist education while making a meaningful difference in the lives of students and their families.
