Wellington East Girls’ College offers a broad and inclusive curriculum for students between the age of 12 and 21 years, with specialised programmes to meet the diverse needs of its learners.

One of these is Te Aka, a supported learning programme for students who benefit from extra help to thrive in their education. Te Aka provides a nurturing and inclusive environment where students can develop key academic, social, and life skills while being fully part of the wider school community.

The programme emphasises personalised learning, tailored support, and building independence and confidence. Students in Te Aka take part in mainstream classes as well as small group learning, ensuring they are both supported and challenged to reach their potential. The focus is on helping each learner grow their skills, connect with others, and prepare for life beyond school.

As an intern at Wellington East Girls’ College, working with Te Aka, you’ll collaborate with teachers and support staff to enhance learning and wellbeing for students. You may help create inclusive classroom environments, adapt activities to meet individual strengths and needs, and contribute to programmes that build communication, confidence, and practical skills.
